To Buy a Bread Machine, or Not to Buy a Bread Machine

Homemade Bread -- Bread Machine Bread

That is the Question -- The Bread Machine Question

As you go down the isles of your local stores especially near the holidays, you can’t help but notice all the new gadgets that are suppose to make your life easier.

One that always catches my eye is the bread machine. My family loves homemade bread. Oh wouldn’t it be nice to have homemade bread every day with very little effort. I have watched with interest the development of this product in the stores over the past several years. The loaf size has increased from 1 pound to 2 pounds or more. The size and shape of the machines have also changed. Bread machines can now make both verticle and horizonal loaves of bread.

Then reality strikes. Where would I put the bread machine? I have limited counter top and cupboard space. There is already the toaster, microwave, and dish drainer on the counter top, not to mention dirty dishes and junk mail. However, for homemade bread I think I could make some room.

How long does it take to make a loaf of bread in a bread machine? It takes on average three hours. Many new machine offer a speed bread bake cycle for bread in an hour. Now that is better.

I think this is the year to get a bread machine. All the nice new features, settings, and options are fantastic. Some bread machines also make cakes, pizza, and jam. I like small kitchen appliances that can multitask.

I bought one a couple of years ago. Haven't used it a lot, but I thought it might be a good thing to have since we live at least a half hour away from a store that has 'real' bread. I have made bread-from-scratch a few times (but not for quite a while).

Making room can be a problem... especially if you are making a big company dinner. On the other hand, baking bread-- even in the machine, makes the whole house smell wonderful.
